Over 250 Catechists are passing on the faith to our children and youth in the 2010-11 year. Please prayerfully consider volunteering in the Parish School of Religion. Preschool, Elementary, Middle School and High School Catechists
Teachers of our PSR sessions are refferred to as “catechists”. The word catechist has its roots in the very early Church. In the time of St. Augustine, it took the meaning of “to echo”. Catechists are committed to four principles: To proclaim the mysteries of faith, to foster community, to encourage worship and prayer and to motivate service to to others.
- Prepare and lead a weekly session
- Implement service projects
- Participate in Catechist Training Opportunities
- Work with Director of Education to plan and implement scheduled family events
The Director of Religious Education and PSR Coordinators provide curriculum materials, syllabus and resource support.
Middle School, Elementary and Preschool Aides
- Assist catechist with session duties
- Lead the session when the catechist is absent
- Participate in Catechist Training Opportunities
High School Catechist (2-4 year commitment preferred)
- Plan and lead a weekly lesson
- Help implement service projects
- Participate in Catechist Training Opportunities
Sunday Office Helpers
- Assist in special projects
- Substitute and help with carpool during session times
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
- Serve on a team once each month to plan and implement a Children’s Liturgy of the Word session
